What Social Media Success Looks Like What does social media success look like? This is a question that's important to ask, as the answer is the target for all your social media efforts. Before you can know what to DO, you must first know where you want to GO. Right?
Right. So, I've taken precious time to ponder the potential and help define the end result from all this hard-won social media effort. If you are successful with social media marketing, your life looks like this:
Fast Forward 1 YearPeople Recognize You in Public You walk in Starbucks on a given weekday. Four people (some at the same time) walk up to you to say hello--2 of which are people in your target market. You will start being approached every where you go by people you don't even know. They may even ask for your autograph! (It's happened to me!) Solid Facebook Activity You log into your Facebook account and you have more likes than you normally get (minimum 10 per post) and 10 friend requests from those in your target market. Your Fan Page will be active and engaged, and you will get regular sign-ups for your newsletter and leads by phone and in your inbox. Regular Blog TrafficYour blog is getting hits every day and always has someone on it. You are also getting blog comments on every blog article that you post.Twitter is StrongYour Twitter has roughly 3000 followers (real followers, not purchased), most of which qualify as prospective clients. You are getting daily retweets and engagement activity is high. You will get leads from your Twitter account. Your existing clients will follow you from your Twitter account and get your updates on their phones. Strategic AlliancesYou are approached by other professionals with decent followings who are in your core service area. These professionals are attracted to you because of your niche reach. You are requested to be on their shows, to guest blog post, to be interviewed on Blog Talk Radio, etc...You Get Traditional PressYour social media coverage is leaking over into the world of traditional media, and you are contacted by the TV news, newspapers, specialty magazines, etc... to give your opinion as an authority in your marketplace. All Your Clients are Integrated Online & EngagedOnce you get situated, all your clients should be engaged and active with you on Facebook and/or Twitter. Every time you make a sale, or do something good, you are tagging clients, etc... So, you have real-time testimonials regularly showing up on your page, as grateful clients are showing their appreciation in the public square of FB & Twitter. You Have an Active YouTube AccountAll your YouTube videos have at least 100 views, some videos will have over 1000 views. Once you really start rocking, you'll start getting more comments on your video. Once this starts happening, you are well on your way.People Take Your CallOnce you start getting famous among your target market, people will start taking your call and sounding funny when you do call. They'll say, "Oh, John Smith??? I can't believe you're calling me!?!?!" You'll be able to get right through to the most important people in your industry.People Will Give You Free Stuff for a MentionOnce you start really going, be prepared to be approached by vendors who want you to mention their name in exchange for free services. The more niched your target market, the more this will happen to you.Your Website / Blog Will Start Being on Top of Search ResultsBecause of your social media traffic and regular blogging discipline, your website will start showing up on top of Google for keyword phrases that match your specialty. You will begin to get traffic and leads from straight SEO searches.Your Website Generates LeadsOnce your social media presence gets strong and you have built a sense of community among your target market, you will begin to generate leads from your website. It will be a reaction not just from social media, but also from your email newsletter that goes out every week, your blog posts, your videos and your social media presence. Everything will contribute to generating more leads. |
